What does H&M source from Thailand? The supplier lists tell two different stories

By FreightStow

We started with a straightforward question: what is H&M buying from Thailand?

The first result was not a list of Thai clothing factories. H&M Group's August 2026 supplier workbook has zero rows with Thailand in the Country column. We checked all 1,547 factory rows, not just the first page or the manufacturing-only entries.

That does not mean there is no Thai connection anywhere in the supply chain.

The Thai names are in an older fibre list

A separate H&M Group man-made cellulosic fibre supplier list from 2022 names two sites in Thailand:

  • Aditya Birla's Thai Rayon Public Co. Ltd.
  • Lenzing (Thailand) Co., Ltd.

That is a historical disclosure about fibre suppliers. It is not a current list of factories sewing H&M garments, and it does not establish a direct H&M import from either company in October 2026.

The date and the production stage change the meaning of the evidence. A fibre can be made in one country, turned into fabric in another and sewn into a finished garment somewhere else. The lists above do not identify that complete path for a particular item.

Why “Thai supplier” and “imports from Thailand” are different claims

Imagine a hypothetical chain: a Thai fibre producer sells material to a fabric mill in another country, and a garment maker then supplies a retailer. Thailand could be part of that product's history without appearing as the finished garment's shipping origin.

That example explains the distinction. It is not a reconstruction of a verified H&M shipment.

To answer the import question, we would need dated records identifying the importer, shipper and goods, then connect those records to the supplier relationship. Even a bill of lading may name an intermediary or a port that differs from the manufacturing location.

What the records actually support

The narrow findings are useful on their own. The August 2026 factory workbook contains no Thailand-listed rows. The 2022 fibre disclosure includes Thai Rayon and Lenzing's Thai site. Neither document gives a current dollar amount, garment quantity or direct shipment route from Thailand to H&M.

So we are not publishing an invented list of “H&M's top Thai imports.” The interesting result is that the answer changes depending on which part of production you examine.

Check the source yourself

The current-edition calculation uses the August 2026 Ver1.2 workbook, checked on 28 October 2026. Search its Country column, rather than searching every cell for “Thai”: a factory name can contain that word while its listed location is Vietnam.

Our factory-count article includes the method and downloadable count data. H&M's supply-chain page explains the distinction between production tiers. Future editions may change the result.
