Proof of Delivery (POD)

A signed acknowledgement that goods arrived, and the trigger for payment on many terms.

Usually a signed copy of the delivery note or consignment note. On road movements under CMR the consignee's signature on the consignment note is the proof.

Any damage or shortage has to be noted at the point of signing. A clean signature makes a later claim considerably harder to run.
