Detention
A charge for keeping a container after taking it out of the terminal, until you return it empty.
Detention starts when demurrage stops. Once the box leaves the port it is the carrier's asset in your possession, and the charge runs until it comes back empty.
The distinction matters because the two are billed separately and at different rates, and a delay in unloading affects detention while a delay in clearing affects demurrage.
