Marks and Numbers
The marks printed on the outside of packages, so a specific carton can be found without unloading everything.
They link a line on the packing list to a physical package. On LCL, your pallets travel with other people's and are separated at a container freight station. There, the marks are what make sure the right goods come out.
“As addressed” is only acceptable when the packages really do carry the consignee's address.
