Sea Waybill
A receipt and contract of carriage that is not a document of title. No original to surrender.
The goods go to the named consignee and are released once they prove who they are. There is nothing to present. That removes the courier delay and the risk of losing an original.
It also removes your security. If you rely on the bill of lading to stop an unpaid buyer collecting the goods, a sea waybill is the wrong document. It suits shipments between group companies and long-standing customers on open account.
Also called: express bill of lading, express release.
