Telex Release
A message from the carrier's origin office letting destination release cargo without an original.
The shipper surrenders all originals at the load port; the carrier tells its destination office to release without presentation. The name is a leftover from an era of actual telexes.
Carriers require the full set surrendered, freight settled, and a written request naming the bill number, vessel, voyage and exact consignee. Many charge a fee, and some also want a letter of indemnity.
Do not use one where the bill is your security. Once released, it is released.
