Switch Bill of Lading
A second set of bills that replaces the first, usually so the final buyer does not see who the supplier is.
It is legitimate and common in triangular trade. The shipper, consignee, notify party, port of loading and goods description can be changed on the new set.
The container number, seal number, gross weight, vessel and voyage cannot be changed. Those describe a physical container. Changing them makes the document false, not switched.
The carrier requires all originals of the first set back before it issues the second. If two sets are in circulation, two parties hold title to one container.
