Tare Weight

Tare is gross weight minus net weight. State it separately when the packing is heavy, such as timber crates or steel frames. It explains a gross weight that would otherwise look wrong for the goods declared.

For a container, the tare weight is stamped on the door. It is roughly 2,200 kg for a twenty-foot container and 3,800 kg for a forty-foot. Add that figure to the cargo weight to get the verified gross mass.
