Rail freight volume and weight

Estimate rail freight charges using your operator's weight rule.

Free to use. No account needed.

LengthWidthHeight
Measure the packed boxMeasure the outside of one packed box. Enter its weight and how many you have.
Package size 1

Enter the outside dimensions and packed weight of each package. A count of 10 means ten packages with the same dimensions and weight. Set the rate to zero to calculate weights only.

How it works

Convert the packages to total cubic metres and kilograms. Dimensional kilograms = cubic metres × 1,000,000 ÷ your operator's DIM divisor. Compare the total dimensional and actual weights.

Rail pricing can be by container, wagon or a lane-specific tariff. The initial 3,000 divisor is only a planning example, not a universal rail rule. Use this calculator only when your quote uses dimensional kilograms.
